Red Shoe Diaries

With great sadness, we can announce that Red Shoe Diaries have decided to call it a day and concentrate on new projects. They were the first artist to release a vinyl record with Fika Recordings, and as such, they'll always occupy a special place in our hearts. It is a beautiful sounding record and a beautiful looking sleeve. "After 4-ish years together, Red Shoe Diaries have decided to bring things to an end.

We are so grateful for all the support we have received from you all, whether it has been coming to gigs, buying our records or generally just being nice to us. We have had some great times.

But far from feeling like an end, this is a new beginning for a lot of us. One of those new beginnings is ‘Seabirds’, a new band featuring members of Red Shoe Diaries. We are very excited about this new venture, and look forward to making more music for y’all!

Red Shoe Diaries - Ice & Snow now out!

Ice & Snow, the lead single from Red Shoe Diaries' 10" EP, is out now! It is available as a free/pay what you can download from the Fika Recordings webshop.

Since before they knew how to talk to girls, guitarist Ashley and singer Thomas have been writing songs and playing music together, and now, years down the line, these teenage bedroom rumblings have matured into a sophisticated blend all of their own. The missing links were added gradually, with long time college friend, Michael playing drums and adding musical direction. Singer Leanne came next, introducing herself at an early gig as “what you need”. They needed bass too, and Rob didn’t have one yet, but he had what they wanted, so, he got this guitar and he learned how to make it talk. They were complete. So they started gigging more seriously, playing with the likes of The Wave Pictures, Ballboy, Allo Darlin, Nouvelle Vague, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, and playing at festivals such as Indietracks, Edinburgh Popfest and Summer Sundae.

Red Shoe Diaries - Ice & Snow

This time last year Fika Recordings HQ was a flurry of cutting and folding, getting our first four cassettes ready for our launch in the middle of February. A year on and 12 releases later, we're still a buzz of frantic and somewhat chaotic activity. All in order to bring you a bunch of fantastic releases this year, the first of which comes from Red Shoe Diaries.

Ice & Snow is the lead single from their EP on Fika Recordings, "When I Find My Heart...". It'll be available to download from the Fika Recordings website on a pay what you like basis (and we're happy for you to download it for free). You can still buy their 5 track 10" EP from us here.

Red Shoe Diaries EP Launch Tour Poster

The Red Shoe Diaires new 10" EP is released on Fika Recordings on Monday the 11th of July. To celebrate, they'll be playing two shows, one in London and one in Nottingham on Friday the 8th and Sat the 9th. Support in London comes from Fika artists Ed Greene and Petter Seander, while Nottingham has the awesome We Show Up On Radar and August Actually. See you there!

For the launch of Red Shoe Diaries 10" EP, they'll be playing a gig for us in London on the 8th of July, at the Betsey Trotwood. Joining them will be two other Fika artists, Ed Greene and Petter Seander, who'll also be releasing new cassette EPs on the night.

11th July 2011. This is the day we cease to be a cassette only label and venture into the wonderful world of vinyl records! Our first foray with wax is coming from Nottingham's Red Shoe Diaries.

When I Find My Heart... will be a 10" EP of the songs they've been teasing audiences with for the past few months. Fists have rightly described them as "the most exciting glittery-literary indie pop band to come from the city since Tindersticks". Other reference points? Well, there's a bit of Will Oldham's alt-folkyness in there we reckon, along with something that brings to mind Stephen Merritt or Jens Lekman. More than anything, these are just 5 beautiful tracks that we're excited to be able to release. As with our other releases, expect something beautifully made and including the usual tea and cake shenanigans; there'll be just 300 of these records made.

We'll have the 5 tracks available to stream and pre-order shortly, along with details of a special launch gig in London in July.
